Description
Our 2.5mm J-Base Flatwork is precision-cut from HyBoard a sustainable plant-based bio-fiber composite laminate, formaldehyde-free alternative to traditional phenolic flatwork.
This material is derived primarily from hibiscus-based organic fibers, producing a dense, electrically insulating laminate with excellent mechanical stability, clean machinability, and consistent winding performance. It offers the rigidity required for vintage-style bobbin geometry while avoiding the brittleness, dust toxicity, and chemical odor associated with phenolic laminates.
The J-base profile provides a traditional footprint compatible with vintage and modern single-coil designs, making it ideal for custom builders, boutique winders, and OEM pickup production.
Flatwork is CNC-cut for accurate pole alignment and uniform thickness, ensuring repeatable results whether you’re hand-winding prototypes or running small-batch production.

Why HyBoard Bio-Fiber Flatwork?
Traditional phenolic flatwork has long been used in pickups, but it comes with trade-offs: brittle edges, hazardous dust, and petrochemical resins. Our HyBoard bio-fiber flatwork delivers comparable structural performance while offering improved machinability and a more sustainable material profile.
For builders focused on tone consistency, safer shop practices, and modern materials, this flatwork provides a compelling alternative without sacrificing performance.
Typical Applications
